Special Services
Head Start of Greater Dallas ensures at least ten-percent enrollment of children with various special needs, are served in accordance with Head Start performance Standards and IDEA. The agency collaborates closely with the local school districts that are required to serve eligible children with various challenges from ages 0 to 21.
The Special Services/Mental Health Director ensures special services and mental Health content areas are fully staffed to ensure delivery of specialized services to Head Start children and families by the following staff: 4 Mental Health Professionals, 1 Special Services Coordinator (EHS), 3 Special Education Coordinators, 1 Licensed Psychological Associate, 16 Special Services Specialists, Special Services Aides.
Each of the Mental Health Professionals assigned to their centers provides preventative and intervention services to all Head Start children through play therapy. They are also responsible for providing individualized counseling services to parents, and facilitate classes on how to deal with anger and frustration in healthy ways. Parent and grandparent support groups are well attended.
